An Overseas Adventures group celebrating a house built for a struggling family in Mexico

Overseas Adventures: Supporting families in Mexico

5th Nov 2020

We were so disappointed to have to cancel the 2020 and 2021 Overseas Adventures. These are certainly unprecedented times.

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, but some of our Groups have asked if they could support the families that would have been helped. So, we are offering the opportunity to contribute to the work of one of our Overseas partners - Amor. Anyone who has travelled with us on an ReBuild trip will know the local communities and the difference that Amor makes.

In Mexico, the house building has been on hold during the pandemic. Amor has continued to provide practical help to the families who are most in need, working with local churches to distribute food.

“The US/Mexican border was closed in late March which means that we have not been able to host any groups since then. Additionally, Mexico has imposed its own restrictions and our team in Mexico have not been able to continue the work of building homes.”

One of the most asked questions has been how much do the houses cost to build? The materials for each cost $3,780 or £2,900. In 2020 and in 2021, we would have built two houses.

If you are able to contribute to Amor’s ministry, please know that you will be helping to feed and house similar communities to those we have worked with in the past. People who have suffered so much - and people who have suffered even more during the pandemic.

The full amount of every donation will go straight to Amor.

Hot off the press, we received some very good news from Amor’s Forrest Fowler last week:

“We have just received permission from the government in Mexico to resume building under some very strict protocols. We are very excited for our team to return to providing homes for families who have been waiting so long. Please also pray for us as we seek new ways to fund Amor and our ministry outreaches. Dios te bendiga, God bless you!"

Let’s look forward to the day when we can travel together again. That day will come!

Thank you for your kindness and support over these difficult few months,

Claire Murphy
Interim CEO
