Frequently Asked Questions

What are the academic entry requirements for the course?

None – applicants will be assessed on interview and ministry background.

Can I get help with Fees?

There will be a limited number of bursaries per cohort of students – usually awarded up to a maximum of 50%. Eligible applicants can apply once a course place is offered.

What times/days is the Course delivered?

Once the day/time of your course is set – this will be fixed for the full duration of the course. The daytime/evening options will be either 12-2pm, or 7-9pm. Courses will be delivered during term-time only.

Will I need a Ministry Placement?

Yes. This is in order for you to fulfil the weekly homework tasks and ministry-related assignments. Most students already have a suitable ministry context within a local church, charity or other community setting – we discuss this at an interview with you. Should students struggle to find a placement – in many cases, we will be able to assist your placement search with our accrediting ministry partners.

What is the Overall Commitment Needed?

Taking into account the 2-hour weekly zoom sessions, 1-2 hours homework, and 2-3 hours ministry placement – the weekly average commitment will be in the region of 5-7 hours.

Will the course be Accredited?

Successful completion of the course will lead to the award of The Westbrook Academy Certificate in Contemporary Urban Mission, Youth Ministry, Youth and Families Chaplaincy or Community Chaplaincy, depending on which track you have chosen.

Students will also receive either the Skills and Education Group (QLS) Advanced Certificate in Contemporary Urban Mission (at QLS Level 4), Youth Ministry (at QLS Level 4), Youth and Families Chaplaincy (at QLS Level 4), or the Advanced Certificate in Community Chaplaincy (at QLS Level 4).
