The season of summer Camps is already underway but some lads and girls in Northern Ireland enjoyed some time away over Easter too. Caleb Keown, one of the Leaders on the Easter Boys' Houseparty, shares some of what happened:
"This year’s Easter Boys’ Houseparty took place again at Mullartown House in Annalong, a picturesque spot along the south-east coast of Northern Ireland. 20 boys came along from across the region, and we were further blessed by probably the best unbroken spell of good weather that this veteran of over 30 camps can remember! This allowed us to do loads of outdoors stuff with the boys, with visits to Castlewellan and Tollymore being particular highlights, while the trip to Newry for wheelchair basketball was a great opportunity to do something a bit different and play this sport without relying on our customary dunks and alley-oops.
As ever, the camp centred around opportunities to hear from and discuss God’s Word. A selection of leaders gave morning talks on the subject of ‘Character under Construction’, thinking about how we might develop godly character and be transformed by the renewing of our minds in this regard. Meanwhile, Tim Gaston built on this in the evenings by speaking about fundamentals of faith, such as service and prayer, as well as the value of honesty and risk-taking to faith. Tim’s authenticity and openness had a big impact on the boys, and what he said encouraged many questions in dorm discussions. The spiritual value of camp has been particularly noticeable for the campers who came into it in the middle of difficult personal and family circumstances, and we thank God that this has been the case and pray that what took place at Easter Boys will have an eternal impact."
