This is the day (30th June) I step down from working at Urban Saints in order to step up to lead my local church. It’s hard to imagine that 18 years have flown by.
When I joined Crusaders in May 2000 I was 29 years old, had no grey hair and had no idea of the journey that lay ahead. Today, I’m certainly a lot older and greyer but, more than anything, I’m hugely grateful for the faithfulness of God and His people.
It’s been an amazing privilege and joy (most of the time!) to serve as Urban Saints’ CEO, and more latterly as President. I thank God for all that He has done during my leadership tenure and I’m absolutely pumped with excitement for the next chapter of the movement under the brilliant leadership of Richard Langmead.
Be assured that I remain 120% committed to seeing children and young people encounter the good news of Jesus. I was called by God to youth ministry when I was 17 years old and I know I will continue to work with young people until my dying day. As the Psalmist writes in Psalm 71:18…
“Even when I am old and grey, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come.”
Matt Summerfield, President
Urban Saints are so grateful to Matt for all he has done, given and poured into this movement and on behalf of the children and young people of the UK and beyond! You can view a short video from Matt and Richard as they came to the end of their Cream Tea tour round the UK this afternoon:
