REBUILD
ReBuild South Africa is designed to provide practical help to some of the poorest families in Johannesburg. The main project on this Adventure is the 5-day building of a house.
Alongside our partners, Amor, we work together to build easy-to-construct houses which fit the needs of the family who will be living there. It’s a simple design so even people with no experience in house building can complete it. A concrete foundation slab should be in place and ready to build on before the group arrives.
You will be joined by staff from Amor who bring guidance and expertise in the building project and brief you on safety and the use of tools while on the build site. As part of the funds that you raise, a set portion will be given over to buy materials and tools in order to build the houses. Money given will also pay for local tradesmen to come and support with completing the technical sections of the build including welding and electrics.
Botleng and Delmas, the townships where the homes are built, are only a short drive from the accommodation at Ebenezer Farm. The sites and recipients of the houses are chosen by a board of local pastors.
Urban Saints have been running ReBuild trips, in partnership with Amor, since 2010. We partner to run trips to both Mexico and South Africa. Amor themselves have been running building projects since the early 1980s and have built almost 20,000 homes in that time.
All our ReBuild trips are supported by the amazing Amor staff who bring guidance and expertise. This ReBuild Adventure is a contribution to their larger and longer-term mission. You can find out more about Amor at www.amor.org
