The Urban Saints Westbrook Centre on the Isle of Wight is a great place for churches - whether for youth, student or church weekends away. One church in Winchester has been bring groups for 15 years and this year, they've visited 4 different times!
The leaders at Christ Church Winchester are becoming familiar faces at Westbrook. When one of their leaders, Dave Thornton, visited our stand at the National Youth Ministry Weekend last month, we took the opportunity to ask him why Urban Saints Westbrook is such a special place for their church.
"Christ Church Winchester has visited Westbrook for over 15 years. We can be at Westbrook in little more than two hours from Winchester and the young people love the ferry journey. It feels like a proper holiday! I regularly visit twice a year with our 11-14s and our 14s-18s, but our 9-10s and our students have also been.
The facilities are very good and improving all the time. There is plenty of space onsite to do everything we need to do, and lots indoors if the weather isn’t great (although it normally is on the Isle of Wight!). The food is excellent and the staff are really keen to support us in our ministry, and they make our tasks on the weekend so easy. A coach brings us from the ferry and leaves us at the centre, but if we need to pick up any latecomers, there’s even a minibus to hire to get them.
The meeting space is great, and you can use your own AV equipment or use Westbrook’s. We’ve seen a load of life change over the years, with many young people committing their lives to Jesus and really growing. Westbrook is really fondly remembered by hundreds of young people from Christ Church who have been over the years. We think it’s great."
