"I can't believe how much coming to Camp has affected my life"The mission of Urban Saints is to make disciples for Jesus and we know that Camps provide significant moments on that journey for many people. Our 2018 season was no exception!
A fabulous team of volunteers delivered 38 Camps, on sites right across the UK and Ireland, supported by an army of prayer warriors. There are so many stories of how God has impacted lives…we have much for which to praise God. The Houseparty at Bethany School had the extraordinary privilege of celebrating an epic milestone this year - 100 houseparties! They calculated that’s over 5,000 young people on Camp through the generations, run by a baton-passing team who are passionate about discipling young people. How fantastic is that!
Many of you reading this have supported Camps in some capacity this year. To all who brought young people along, served on teams, prayed, donated to the bursary fund and more (the list of support is fantastically long), THANK YOU! We are very grateful for the part you played in enabling over three thousand children and young people to hear the gospel, grow in their relationship with God, all whilst having an awesome time!
The end of summer doesn’t signal the start of a quiet period for Camps. Our girls’ Camp, Shine, (www.urbansaints.org/shine) is celebrating its 10th anniversary when it runs in November, followed by our final Camp of 2018 - the New Year Houseparty in December at Westbrook. We’re also working hard on the 2019 programme. Check out www.urbansaints.org/camps for a sneak preview of what’s on the horizon!
If you are interested in bringing your group along to a Camp, we have a wide range to offer from high-energy weekend Sprees to week-long summer Camps. We’re always happy to help you find one that suits your group’s needs. Alternatively, if you want to find a role in serving, just pick up the phone and we’ll be delighted to chat!
Let me finish with a story a camp leader told us recently which perfectly sums up the journey a young person has been on, and how Urban Saints supporters helped in this:
'We have a young man at camp who has been supported by Urban Saints bursaries in the past. He is now one of our young leaders, and is a real asset to the team. Without the funding in the past he would not have been able to come. As a result of the experience of leadership at camp, he now helps to lead a local church youth group. He openly admits that without camp he would have stopped being involved in church long ago. He said to me about 6 months ago, “I can’t believe how much coming to camp each year has affected my life – I’m so pleased that I can now contribute towards to the costs so that other young people like me can come this year”’
