Esther is a student who has taken on leadership responsibilities at Urban Saints Westbrook and in Justice charity at Oxford University

Meet Esther, a modern-day Giant Slayer. She’s 21 and has grown up through Urban Saints camps at Westbrook on the Isle of Wight. This summer she led on a camp there.

"From a young age I took my faith seriously, however Westbrook strengthened and stretched me in my journey. Westbrook taught me about Christ-shaped community and I made some absolutely wonderful friends who did a lot to challenge me and help me mature in my faith. It was there that I realised I was called by Christ to be a leader. I’ll never forget being prayed over by leaders, challenged to take up leadership opportunities on camp, and thoroughly affirmed in my gifts and who I was created to be. I always left Westbrook feeling like I had been cast alight and was now on a mission to actively love others and boldly live for Christ.

“More recently I have been involved with a Christian charity, ‘Just Love’, firstly as a student committee member during my time at university and from September 2018 as a Staff Worker. ‘Just Love’ was set up by Tom from Urban Saints Guildford, and it strives to see every Christian student inspired and released to pursue the biblical call to social justice, both during their time at university and for the rest of their lives.

“Through other students and the wonderful training we were given, ‘Just Love’ continued to affirm me in my leadership, to call out my gifts and provide me with opportunities to grow in and strengthen them. That hunger that I’d had to love others and boldly live for Christ was now given a practical outlet. I was able to get involved in the ‘Just Love’ justice projects and use my gifts to lead and encourage others in their journey too."

We long to see more Giant Slayers like Esther graduating  from Urban Saints groups and camps up and down the country.
