A slingshot with three sharp stones

Giant Slayers

5th Nov 2018

In June 2018 Matt Summerfield and Richard Langmead toured the UK and Ireland sharing the inspirational message of the boy David defeating the giant Goliath. This message really resonated with people because today our young people are facing so many giants – secularism, depression, social media, fake news, gang violence etc. It’s clear we desperately need a new generation of Giant Slayers who will step up and stand for God in this age.

David’s story inspires us because it is about so much more than defeating one giant. When you read the account in 1 Samuel 17, there were no other giant slayers in Israel but, by the end of David’s life, the Bible tells of dozens of mighty men (2 Samuel 23) who were powerful and effective servants of God, slaying all kinds of giants. David’s story shows that where one person finds the courage and faith to stand up to a giant, God can use this to inspire others to become giant slayers and win a nation for God.

Urban Saints is committed to raising up a new generation of Giant Slayers. A generation who will defeat the giants and inspire a transformed culture with their bold and adventurous faith.

And so, in addition to Urban Saints’ existing ministry, your giving and prayers will enable dozens of new ‘Crusader-style’ groups to launch across the UK and Ireland. Your gifts will help us to recruit Impact Team Leaders who will mobilise and train volunteer leaders. These leaders will be committed for the long-term, gathering young people into safe and exciting weekly groups – great role models who will offer opportunities for adventure, learning about Jesus, tackling injustice, solid Bible teaching and our exciting residentials and camps.

We long to see more Giant Slayers graduating from Urban Saints groups and camps up and down the country.

In time Urban Saints want to start new groups in every community of the UK and Ireland. It’s a big vision, but we are starting with seven new Urban Saints groups this autumn – reaching young people who do not go to church. With your help, over the next three years, we will start 42 new groups – and from there, raise up, train and equip thousands more leaders and groups, changing the lives of over 50,000 young people.

Please do pray with us that the Lord will raise up more Impact Team Leaders, ‘workers for the harvest’ (Matthew 9:38), so the new groups can be planted.

Our hope is that people who share our vision will continue to give and pray fervently. Regular giving is particularly helpful for this so we know we can provide support for groups for the long haul.
