Over 9000 people gathered in 'Car Park H' at Alton Towers for the 2008 'Ultimate Event' to witness live performances from Delirious?, thebandwithnoname, Sanctus Real, This Beautiful Republic & RPM as well as loads of other activities including rappers, football & basketball freestylers, magicians and a caged football area.
Urban Saints, as co-sponsors with Compassion UK, had a big presence at the event with banners everywhere (including at the sides of the huge main stage), video clips on the big screens, a bustling exhibition stand selling hoodies, shirts, Bibles and giant foam hands and a leaders chill-out marquee, with a chocolate fountain, a drinks fountain, offering teas and coffees and providing space for tired leaders to sit, relax, play games and just get away from the hectic atmosphere of the gig!
'Ultimate Event' consisted of a full day in the Alton Towers theme park in the baking heat, with loads of different rides to choose from - even the Urban Saints team managed to get on at least one ride! After this hectic day of "white-knuckle" entertainment and sunburn, the crowds gathered for four and half hours of top Christian music and entertainment. Thebandwithnoname played two lots of songs and really got the people jumping. Sanctus Real really seemed to revel in their first live UK appearance and Delirious? capped the evening off in their usual polished, stylish, energetic manner. As we looked around the swaying, bouncing concert-goers, loads of the big white foam hands could be seen dotted around the crowd - there would have been more of them to be seen around if we hadn't sold out of them within two hours of the event starting...
We had a great day at 'The Ultimate Event' and by the look of the beaming grins on all the faces of those present, so did everyone else!
