New Year. Same Mission
Peter Andrews brings New Year greetings but wonders whether things will be any different in 2010...
“I’ll give you a new heart, put a new spirit in you. I’ll remove the stone heart from your body and replace it with a heart that’s God-willed not self-willed.’” Ezekiel 36:27 (The Message)

Happy New Year! I hope that you had a great Christmas break.

Last month I reflected upon the sense of anticipation that there is leading up to Christmas and ‘anticipation’ is a word that can also be applied at the start of a New Year. For many people the turning of the year is the point at which ‘things will be different’, the old habits, worries, lifestyle will be gone to be replaced by something ‘new and improved.’ In reality, however, things are often just the same as they were and the only thing that has really changed is the page on the calendar. Across our region and nation young people are starting the New Year with exactly the same problems, struggles, attitudes and questions as they finished the old one. That’s why the work that you are involved in remains so vital. It’s the opportunity that you give young people to meet with Jesus that offers life-transformation that is real, lasting and not calendar-dependant!
