YOUNG SPORTS VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR(sponsored by Greater Merseyside Connexions Partnership Ltd)LIAM MEAGHER
LIAM is programme leader and junior coach with his hometown Urban Saints Minis Basketball League in Runcorn.
The league, run by the Christian charity Urban Saints, made a successful debut last year.
Six primary schools participated in the league after each had received 10 hours of coaching. Its success was down in no small way down to the efforts of 16-year-old Liam.
During September to December 2008, he helped to coach more than 60 children from the six school teams. He also helped to plan and run the league, conducted warm-ups, refereed games, connected well with the children and spoke to parents.
Liam has been involved with half-term basketball workshops for Halton Sports Development and is a positive role model.
