2010 National Eating Disorders Awareness Week - 22-27 February 2010
"Eating disorders can claim as many as 300,000 lives each year and more under 18 year olds than any other psychiatric condition."
Each year Anorexia & Bulimia Care (ABC) - our partners on the 2007 Infocus: Eating Disorders Training DVD - sends a campaign to churches and Christian organisations in order to raise awareness of eating disorders and increase understanding for all those affected. Last year with our supporting organisations, we reached over 40,000 people. In 2010, Urban Saints are again delighted to support them in their campaign to raise of awareness of these cruel and potentially life-threatening (yet widely misunderstood) conditions.
In a campaign led by the statement "The Day Charlotte Stopped Eating", ABC are telling the story of a young girl whose struggle with anorexia began aged just 11, when her father was diagnosed with cancer and ABC are committed to both supporting those who struggle with these conditions and educating churches, youth leaders and parents to help in that support.
Please check out their campaign - download it here - during this year's Eating Disorders Awareness Week and do whatever you can to support the work of ABC.
Our partnership with ABC (check out their website at the link below) has led to a range of resources for helping our leaders, volunteers and parents to understand Eating Disorders better and offering advice and training for working with young people who suffer with them.
